It's that time of year again, albeit a little late.
For those that don't know, let me explain the tradition that has become the A1 Wrestling Slugfest Of Doom. It is a grandiose fantasy tournament which pits characters from all genres of entertainment against each other. Nearly anybody imaginable from Darth vader to Wolverine to The Noid from those old pizza commercials is eligible for nomination. Nominations will be open until no later than September 22nd. I want to make sure everybody gets a chance to nominate, and that I have enough time to place and seed a tournament that will have well over 100 entries.
A few rules on nominations
-Unless otherwise ruled, any nomination that is not given specific details will default to the current incarnation of the character, or the most popular in some cases.
Example: Simply nominating "Green Lantern" would cast a nomination for Hal Jordan, while nominating "Robin" would cast a vote for Damien Wayne.
-You get 20 Nominations, and a nominee must be seconded by another poster in order to qualify. You are free to divvy up your nominations however you see fit, with any mix of nominations and seconds. This is one of the few unbending rules of the event. The only exceptions to this are usually to round out a bracket, and even then are either left to Mod discretion or (more likely) popular vote.
-You may change nominations up until the Slugfest starts, as long as that nomination isn't a seconding, or hasn't been seconded.
Example: If you nominated Wolverine, and he was seconded, you cannot change that nomination. Likewise if you seconded somebody's choice of Popeye. However, if you notice nobody's seconding your Frank Poncherello nomination, you can go ahead and drop him and nominate somebody else.
-You cannot second your own nomination
-The only people not eligible for this are "real life" people or religious figures. Sorry, this means no Hitler vs. Jesus or Osama Bin Laden vs. Archduke Franz Ferdinand. I'm not touching that with an 11 foot pole. There are some exceptions to this though.
- Action Heroes (aka The Chuck Norris Rule): Actors that have a certain cult status can be nominated. Chuck Norris, Vin Diesel, or Mr. T are perfect examples of this.
- TV Personalities (aka The Larry David Rule): People that play "themselves" on reality style or fictionalized TV shows. Example: Actor Larry David portrays "Larry David" on Curb Your Enthusiasm.
- Posters On This Board (aka The Turbovirgin Rule): If the poster is cool with it, then I have no problem with it.
Once all the nominees are decided, yours truly (with the likely help of a select few) will assemble all combatants into appropriate brackets based on power levels. This helps keep fights somewhat fair so we don't have unfair first round matchups such as Darkseid vs. J Jonah Jameson. All battles are single elimination, and are decided by popular vote. Once all the Bracket champions are decided, we head to the Playoffs where we continue with single elimination until there is one ultimate winner. That winner is declared the 2011 Slugfest Of Doom Champion.
A NEW STIPULATION for this year: All previous winners are INELIGIBLE! They are now immortalized in the Slugfest Hall Of Fame. Doom may not approve, but dem's the rules. Plus guys like Superman, Hulk, etc... have pretty much battled all the regulars anyway. Yes, this means no Punk or Jack Bauer this year either.
The only possible way around this is any alternate versions of a character. Tony Stark's Iron Man is out, but Jim Rhodes has also worn the armor. It's the man that's banned, not the gimmick.
Previous runners-up are automatically qualified same as previous years.
