Lockdown 2013
« on: March 11, 2013, 01:22:38 AM »
Watched this with Hare and two other friends. We all enjoyed it.

Kenny King d. Zema Ion and Christian York to retain the X-Division Title by pinning York with the Royal Flush

Joseph Park d. Joey Ryan by countering a Sunset Flip with a Vertical Splash. Very entertaining match. I believe in Joseph Park

Velvet Sky d. Gail Kim to retain the Knockouts Title. Gail kept taunting referee Taryn Terrell before finally slapping her. Taryn speared Gail and CATFIGHT until Velvet hit Gail with the Pedigree In Yo Face for the win. Taryn is likely transitioning to a wrestler.

Rob Terry d. Robbie E in a glorified squash match

Austin Aries and Bobby Roode d. Bad Influence and Chavo/Hernandez when Roode pinned Daniels. It was a three way tag where anybody could tag anybody. Roode tagged himself in while Chavo hit a frogsplash, thus negating Chavo's ability to pin Daniels. Roode then pinned Daniels.

All the rest of the matches were in a cage

Wes Brisco d. Kurt Angle after a ref bump. Angle exited the cage, but was jumped by Aces & 8s. They then tossed Angle in and pulled Wes out. The ref came to and called Wes the winner.

Team TNA d. Aces & 8s when Showtime Eric Young pinned Doc (I think) with an elbow off the top of the cage

Bully Ray d. Jeff Hardy after Aces & 8s jumped the cage. Devon tossed Ray a hammer which he used to deck Hardy. Hulk and Brooke were at ringside. Bully then cut a promo saying he screwed Hulk and he screwed Brooke. Bully is the leader of Aces & 8s. The crowd littered the ring with junk in a throwback to NWO heat.

Was a good show.  Even the filler matches weren't bad.  Only time I really felt bored was when the cat fight broke out and then of course the downtime while setting the up cage.

I read that this was TNA's most attended live event in company history.

This company is making impressive strides in 2013.

I thought Kenny King was dead after he hit the guard rail. Impressive spot idea to springboard off of another dude's back while he was hung over the ropes, but he kinda slipped and smashed into the guard rail head first.

Even better was Zandrax bringing the "splitting watermelons" joke on the Twitter.

Hardy suffered a concussion after the powerbomb apparently.

Did he throw up all over the ringside fans?

We all kinda went a little quiet when that happened and you could visibly see Christian York trying to get a reaction from Kenny King.

Yeah, York instantly dove on him and you could tell he was checking to see if he was ok. That shot was pretty sick.

A couple other random notes:

  • Taryn Terrell is pretty hot, plus she hit one of the better spears from a female I've seen in a long time.
  • I enjoyed the women's match. Why can everyone else except WWE put on a good women's match?
  • There were some really interesting Tower of Doom spots in the A's & 8's vs. TNA match. Joe pulling 5 guys out of the corner was pretty sweet.
  • I initially thought Sting was going to turn when he stopped EY in the corner. The top of the cage bit was awesome.
  • Us folks on the podcast r smrt. We called the Bubba turn a few weeks ago.
  • I like Tazz better as a heel announcer, but he was pretty annoying in spots.
Solid PPV though.

Honestly, I think most people of reasonable intelligence figured Bully was turning, even with the inconsistencies. But it's an angle we want to see so it's a little more forgivable.

I've watch somewhere between 45 minute and an hour of TNA Impact since the Aces and Eights thing started and I could have told you that Bully Ray was turning.

(And that's with me not even having reasonable intelligence.)

wait.

im not sure i have this right.

bully was a heel.

then he turned face to fight against A&8s.

and now he's turning heel again because he's actually the A&8s boss?

Short answer, the face turn was a construct.

The long answer would be he was in league with A&8s so he could get a title shot. Presumably because he hasn't actually won one by winning matches, (the last two BFG Series as evidence). So he manipulated his way into getting one.

Bully turned face to sucker Hogan into giving him a title shot.  Hogan played favorites for his new son-in-law and gave Bully Ray the Lockdown title shot.

Mission Accomplished.

Yup, pretty brilliant on Bubba's part actually.

I thought it all played out well.  The Hogan's coming out to ring side later on the match all but sealed that it was happening

Hell I think Hogna giving his blessing to Bully in the segment early on was a foreshadowing.

I can't wait until they break in Ace & Eights Hollywood and Aces & Eights Wolfpack.

Mr. Anderson is fat and useless.

Hogan's acting was pretty good. Good for TNA if they continue to grow. We all know how Vince has acted ever since he had no competition. It would be good for the WWE to lose a big talent like Dolph Ziggler to TNA so they pay more attention to their own product.
