Dude, I loved doing that, pissed a many people off in the middle of their combos.

Not my thing since I'm on this crappy Vista laptop, but when I upgrade, I'd love to teach you a lesson or two. :P

Oh ho.  Perhaps.   :)

I'll look forward to it.

You might want to look into this first - most of this is rumor.

Kinect does need to be on all the time - XBox won't work without it.

Used games do not need separate fees or licenses.
- THIS IS JUST A RUMOR. The model *should* be an activation thing - deactivate it on one, activate it on another, like they do with Office now. BUT - this has not been confirmed by Microsoft in any way.

XBox One does NOT need to be online 24/7. This has been confirmed false by Microsoft.

It just means you would have to remove the license from your system, kind of like how you have to put in a license key for your copy of Windows or Office.

What I've heard is there will be a software portal. You log in online, and deactivate your software under your id. Then you give the game to your friend, and they go activate it under their gamertag. No fees to do so, just keeping track of the licensing.

Where the cost rumor started was if a game is installed without that activation process, or possibly if it is activated somewhere else, then there is the new game cost.

I think the whole thing is to prevent piracy, otherwise how would the system know the disc isn't burned/hacked?

Right, and then that was twisted into "ZOMG YOU HAVE TO PAY TO PLAY USED GAMES" taking that as the standard without knowing what the real policies are. Same as the 24/7 stuff.

The system can tell now.  That's why you need to mod it.

If this is an anti piracy measure, they'll find a way to beat it.

They always do.

Nobody ever made a dime off of curbing theft when it comes to digital goods.  Most pirates won't spend money.  You make money by selling digital goods.  Draconian anti piracy measures is a good way to convince people not to plunk down money on a product...

As I addressed in the podcast, fighting piracy is like fighting a Hydra. Chop off one head, another one grows. But just letting piracy run rampant isn't a solution either.

There's a happy medium, I agree.

But if one has to err, I think it's good policy to keep anti piracy measures from affecting paying customers..  Or, if that's not possible, do something for your customer base to offset the measures.

Bottom line, a paying customer shouldn't have to pay the price for other people's theft, on principle.  Or more pragmatically, if you pay money, and your experience is worse then that of a pirate, that simply makes customers feel like shmucks, and encourages piracy, in the long run..

Confirmed that XBox One will NOT function as a DVR - meaning it will not record TV shows to the XBox hard drive. It will control recording shows from the integrated TV experience, but it will record them on your connected PVR.

As was expected.  People are still bitching of course.

Pretty much everything they said today is exactly what me and a co-worker have been saying how it would work from day one of the conference.

The always online thing doesn't bother me, tbh.

But Angry Video Game Nerd or his successor's won't be playing Xbox 1 games when they're long dated, that's for sure.  Xbox 1 will never be "retro friendly" in two or three gens..  *Hugs his SNES*

24 hour limit basically = always online, considering most people won't want to continually disconnect and reconnect within the 24 hour limit.  Sure, you can play within the time frame, while offline, for whatever reason..

Hm, but do they mean you can play for 24 hours before needing to log online, or do they mean the Xbox needs to update every 24 hours?  Say, if you haven't played your Xbox for a week, and when you decide to play your internes down....?

It came across to me like you have 24 hours of playing time. So if you play for an hour today, you still have 23 hours left on the "clock" tomorrow.

Actually it is very likely going to be EXTREMELY retro friendly based off the formation of WHY they want it updating every 24 hours.  This has a very good chance of being the last console generation.  They are clearly making a push for pure digital content and they confirmed that the games will very likely be using servers to process the game thus the games will constantly look better and better.  Without the hardware itself running the game why make new consoles?
