MY SON has a question about PC controllers
« on: July 26, 2013, 08:57:30 PM »
So this is him:
I've recently started using my pc for gaming and for the time being have been using my keyboard and mouse, but I am looking into getting a controller for certain of games. I'm trying to find a relatively low-priced controller that can be reliable. I just recently bought an adapter for ps/ps2 controllers, though I have been up to now unable to use it with either xpadder or joytokey and games such as Borderlands2 and Just Cause2 have not detected it either. I've seen numerous recommendations for a wired 360 controller and seeing as how many games use that as their default I am wondering if I should just go with one of those. Though I've heard less than positive things about the d-pad. As of now, I am looking at the RockCandy360 controller as a substitute for ~20$. If anyone has any suggestions/recommendations I would be quite grateful.

Your son likes using controllers for PC fps/tps?  Hm..

All I can tell you, is I've had good experiences with my Gamestop brand wired 360 controller.  But I haven't tried using joy2key to play it on Borderlands, either.

What does he need the dpad for, exactly?  Is he into fighting games?  2d platformers and/or old arcade games like Pac Man?

Xbox 360 controller is the way to go. They're built specifically to be compatible for Windows. IMO there's nothing really all that bad about the D-pad.

Yea since I've decided to make the switch to PC gaming in the past few months I've picked up a controller to play the few games that will work better with it (Darksiders, Deadpool, just about anything that isn't an RTS/FPS).  I just went and got a Microsoft Xbox 360 Wired controller.  They are only about $29.99 to $39.99 now so not bad on the price.  Like Prime said you just plug it in and it works.  I've never had to get it recognized by a game.  In fact I had to tell some games to NOT use it as they were trying to default to it (I'm looking at you Skyrim)

I've heard there is an adapter you can buy from Microsoft that allows you to use the Wireless 360 controllers with your PC and it's only about $10 - $20 from what I've been told but never looked into.  Wired was fine for me as I'm not far from the PC so no point in draining batteries even more.
