Getting a Wii in 2013....
« on: September 03, 2013, 06:57:22 PM »
They are $70 used at Gamestop at this point, probably going to go lower.

Would you suggest buying one now? And if so, top games that aren't named mario, zelda, or metroid you would suggest..

Yes, go ahead and get one. But keep in mind that the online for some games (like Monster Hunter Tri) is gone.

The games I would recommend for the Wii:

Rhythm Heaven Fever (this is a must buy)
Kirby's Epic Yarn
Kirby's Return To Dreamland
Donkey Kong Country Returns
Madworld
Dead Space Extraction
De Blob
Boom Blox
RPGs like Tales of Symphonia: From A New World, Final Fantasy Crystal Bearers, Rune Factory Frontier
Xenoblade Chronicles (if you can get it for cheap)
The Last Story
Pandora's Tower

If you're into jailbreaking, I've been told the Wii is great for stuff like that. Its time consuming, but well worth it

I should have prefaced. **I** have one, but I was trying to make an argument to someone that it's still worth purchasing.

Mine is softmodded, it's so damn easy to do that it's almost insane not to.

I hear it looks like crap on an hdtv.....

For 70 dollars, I may get one though.  Never tried soft modding before..

It's really not that hard to 'jailbreak' a Wii but I know that most recent Wii's like the Wii Mini won't work. At one point you could use early copies of Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess but that has since changed. I'm not going to say how you can do it but just Google "Wii Hacking" and you'll find very good tutorials on setting it up.

The best reason to do it: you can make your Wii region free and play all the Japanese games that never came out over here and translated Wii games (like Fatal Frame IV).

modding..er... jail breaking, your wii is so easy, all you need is an SD card, a computer, and 10 minutes. You don't even need a game anymore with the latest way to do it.

They are $70 used at gamestop. That's the price of a roku box. The Wii does Hulu and Netflix.. To me, getting one at this point is almost a no brainer, but others don't get it.

It looks better if you use Component cables instead of the Composite cables the Wii normally comes with

i think you can get a bluray player w/ internet ability (netflix, hulu) for about the same amount.

anyway, why would one need to jailbreak their wii?

eta:  under $70 and new.

(use the link from A1 if you're purchasing)

Yeah, but the Hulu box outputs in HD while the Wii only does SD.
Chus, people like to jailbrick the Wii to do things like play ROMs, they're not fans of the Channels that Nintendo offers, and do their own custom channels, make it where the Wii can play DVD's, stuff like that.
