The 80s Generation lost another one of their heroes Monday when actor James Best passed away from complications of Pneumonia at the age of 88. Best was most widely known for playing the aloof, but loyal Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane on The Dukes Of Hazzard. He had also appeared in several famous Western series including Rawhide, Have Gun – Will Travel, and The Lone Ranger.
Best also was in several movies over a 65 year career. Some of his film credits include The Killer Shrews (famously lampooned on Mystery Science Theater 3000), Hooper (with Burt Reynolds, Jan-Michael Vincent, and Adam West), and Death Mask (which he also shares a writing credit). Best had recently started work on Old Soldiers with Jake Busey.
