First, I don't mind the time hopping and the stuff we missed.  Watch Star Wars to Empire Strikes Back, there's a little time hopping there.  However, I can see why some people would be bothered by it.

Han's death was a little obvious and I think that is what bothered me the most about it.  I stayed away from spoilers so I didn't know he died but once he went out there, I waited for him to take a saber in the gut.

I say we make Han an honorary Jedi and give him the blue glow treatment.

JJ was smart enough not to make a hokie kid's character that we all wish we could forget.

Red Arm C3P0 is marketing genius!  It's not the same, you have to buy this version!

Luke becoming a hermit must be the Jedi code per Yoda and Ben.

I guess I need to look at the Easter eggs now.

Red Arm 3PO was fucking hilarious. It's just so bizarre and out of left field. I also loved his first appearance in the movie, you're getting all amped up for this emotional reunion between Han and Leia and then 3PO literally pops his head into frame out of nowhere. One of my favorite parts of the movie, in terms of humor. I also liked the old lizard lady who took her glasses off and had Milhouse Van Houtten tiny eyes.

My understanding is the reason 3PO had a red arm was to show that the character has aged. They'll explain it in a 3PO one-shot comic.

Of course, remember 3PO had a silver leg in the classic trilogy.

It's definitely there left leg to be precise. It's why he was silver in the prequels.

Saw it yesterday and had terrible seats. Really enjoyed it. Had no issue with Han's death and figured when he signed on to do the film it was his last one. I read something that suggested that Kylo Ren was more like what Anakin should have been in the PT and I agree with that. I also agree that Chewie's reaction to Han's death was on point. I liked Finn, Rey, and Poe a lot more than thought I would and felt they more than held their own against the old favorites.

You would think the force would keep all those moles off of him.

Lucas threw out a line about selling his baby to "white slavers", and of course everyones working it into their article titles.. Because, clickbait.

George Lucas grew up.as a long haired, counterculture hippie, so the comment isn't too surprising.. He probably still thinks he's the "us" is the hippie narrative, while Disney's the faceless "establishment."  Who paid him crap load of evil, evil money for his "yacht fund" ( His term for his savings.)

People complaining about Finn fighting Kyle Ren, and Rey beating him.

Guess they didn't see the part where Chewbacca shot him in the gut, or all the blood spilling out of him.  Or the fact that he could barely move the lightsaber...

Ren was hurting bad.  Odds are, it was taking all his strength just to keep from falling over.

And after multiple scenes building Chewie's bolt gun as the most badass, killer gun in the SWU.

That's such a shitty complaint, when there are so many real things to complain about. Like the gunplanet or the ancient chinese secret lady.

I liked the chinese lady because she had Milhouse Van Houtten's eyes.

And hey, it's Disney and Star Wars.  The two things define racially based stereotypes individually, and now you're combining them.  :p

OK here are a few nagging things, more about fandom reaction than anything.

-Snoke is NOT Darth Plagueis. Even Andy Serkis himself is saying this is a new character. My hunch is he may be a former Inquisitor from Star Wars Rebels. If my count is correct, there are seven Inquisitors in Rebels. And it looked like those Knights Of Ren in that Force Vision were seven in number.

-Perhaps that slaughter by The Knights Of Ren was done to Luke's students?

-Darth Vader's remains. I know I've thought that maybe Kylo Ren tracked down Darth Vader's remains and collected them. But after mulling it over, I think it's very possible Luke may have gathered the ashes shortly after the pyre died down because 1) That's his father and 2) It's kind of a jerk thing to build a funeral pyre and not clean up after yourself. So it's possible Luke had the remains of Anakin Skywalker tucked away as a memorial, and Kylo stole them when he turned.

-There is fan speculation that Rey may actually be the granddaughter of Obi-Wan Kenobi. See, in Clone Wars Obi-Wan had a potential love interest in Duchess Satine. Her dying words were professing her love of him. The problem with that theory is Satine clearly had no offspring. It would have to be a retconned addition that would take some serious 'splainin in Episode VIII. I think it's a far simpler story that either 1) Luke did marry and father Rey, and Kylo killed the mother or 2) Rey is actually Kylo's younger daughter, and for whatever reason was hidden from Han and Leia at a young age. Something that is backed up by the Force Vision

My nagging things:

-If Finn was a janitor on the Death Star, what was he doing with the attack squad on Jakku? Based on his freak outs, it would seem that was his first mission...had he just been promoted?

-Rey learning to use the force in a matter of hours was dumb

-Han deserved a better death

-Captain Phasma was apparently only in the film to assist merchandise sales.  I hope she's back in the next one to display why she's a captain.  Oh ya, and having a Captain willingly drop the shields on her team's star base was idiotic.  Would have made more sense to have them pressure a desk jockey or engineer to do it, since they probably didn't sign up expecting to lose their lives for the cause.

-Luke's cameo was shit

-After a while, the nostalgia and call backs to the original films turned from awesome to fun to meh to "really?  This is just A New Hope with a fresh coat of paint."

What I liked:

-The nostalgia, look and feel of the film was great for the first hour and a bit.  I was on board with the film pretty much until they gathered in the command centre to plan their attack on the death star.  After that the film lost all hope of achieving anything fresh or original.

-the Bowcaster.  They finally made it a legit weapon.  I don't think Chewie scored more than 1 or 2 hits with his main weapon throughout the entire original trilogy.  Maybe he had his vision corrected sometime in the past 32 years

-Han's line about solving problems through talk rather than violence.  I laughed, it was a nice cheeky way to poke fun at the "Han shot first" phenomenon.

-The storm trooper with the tazer bat.  That was probably my favourite combat scene of the film.  Finally a storm trooper that is more than cannon fodder.

-all the Star Wars stuff.  Like the fighter battles, the light saber shit, kylo ren's force powers were sweet (other than the hand in the face mind reading crap.  that shit was kinda lame).

I'm actually starting to really dig Ren.  He's like the anti Darth Maul.  One was a generic badass with no personality, while the other feels like a real character.

I was sort of worried when he froze that blaster bolt, that Abrams was going to make him into an invincible Khan badass.  Liked how they subverted that in the end, without making him look like a total loser.
