From F4W

After weeks of speculation, All Elite Wrestling is now official. AEW was officially announced at the end of a Being the Elite episode that was uploaded at midnight Pacific time on January 1, 2019. In addition to the promotion, the episode also announced "Double or Nothing" -- the sequel to All In. The Young Bucks, Cody Rhodes, and Hangman Page were included in the reveal of AEW and Double or Nothing. SoCal Uncensored (Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian, and Scorpio Sky) were also part of the episode. There will be a Double or Nothing rally at TIAA Bank Field (the home of the Jacksonville Jaguars) in Jacksonville, Florida at 5 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesday, January 8, with more information about Double or Nothing and AEW being revealed then. The advertisement notes that the rally will include a "special announcement from The Elite." The Young Bucks, Cody & Brandi Rhodes, Hangman Page, Daniels, Kazarian, and Sky are featured on the ad, and it says that there will be more special guests.

The rally will be free to attend and will be taking place at the parking lot in front of West Club at TIAA Bank Field. Live stream information for it will be announced soon. AEW has been rumored since October, with trademarks for the promotion being filed in November.  As the announcement was made, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez discussed the details of AEW on Wrestling Observer Radio.

Here are some notes from the episode: - There are guys signed to the promotion, including Cody. The Young Bucks aren't officially signed yet but could be within 24-48 hours. - There's no television deal for AEW yet, but there are "multiple offers out there." Meltzer said he's confident enough to say that he thinks it will happen. - People are being signed to multi-year contracts. - Tony Khan (of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Fulham FC) is the head of the company. He's a longtime professional wrestling fan and the son of billionaire Shahid Khan. - What happens with AEW and New Japan Pro Wrestling is "100 percent up in the air." Everyone in All Elite would like to have a relationship with NJPW and would like to continue working with them. Whether or not NJPW will do it is up in the air. - The success of All In wasn't lost on certain people in the TV industry. Those who watched it were very impressed. - Meltzer doesn't think ROH talent will be working for AEW -- they'll be competing for the same wrestlers. Meltzer called this the greatest thing for talent since the WWF/WCW war, with WWE, AEW, and ROH now all competing for talent. They all wanted Bandido, and ROH got him

Khan has as much as money (prob more) as Vince McMahon. If he seriously wanted to get into the wrestling biz he will be best for all involved. Personally wwe is overloaded with talent as it is and Omega needs to be their next purchase.

So reading through the Youtube comments on the video there was discussion that none of this happens if WWE just let's Cody Rhodes drop the Stardust gimmick like he wanted and goes back to being "himself".

Thoughts?

PRob so. Imagine a world where Eric Bischoff does not fire STeve Austin and he languishes in wcw mid card and montreal never happens and Vince just allows bret to hand him the wwe world title on wwe tv. No SCSA and no MR MCMahon. Also imagine if that Dwayne Johnson guy was good at football in college and had a 8 year nfl career.

I mean it makes sense.  I was a Cody fan and always felt he was under utilized.  Absolutely loved his Darth Rhodes schtick he did for awhile.  I just haven't really followed anything NJPW or RoH or anything else he's been involved in since being let go from the WWE.  Has he really turned out to be that influential and big a deal?

He wanted the chance to prove he could be a main event player and felt he wasnt getting that in the E. Since then he's aligned himself with the Bucks, using some of their business methods and it's worked for him and Brandy

According to a well placed source, Tony Khan is fronting $100 million for the launch of AEW. Jim Ross, who has repeatedly denied involvement with AEW, will be heavily involved - both on commentary and in a backstage capacity. Ross is likely not commenting on this situation because technically he is still under contract to WWE for a few more months. JR and WWE will not be renewing their contract so you can expect that once he is officially out, his involvement will be publicized.

Sports agent Barry Bloom, who already represents many prolific talent in the industry, is involved from a recruitment perspective. According to our source, AEW will "go hard" at WWE for stars whose deals will be expiring and they will be "mixing in legends" as well. One name that has been brought up is Goldberg, who I believe is already a client of Bloom's. Chris Jericho - who has also been rumored to be connected to this new promotion - is going to be involved "in depth" as well, as per our source. There are other WWE employees/contractors (note, this does not necessarily mean wrestlers) who AEW is going to pursue aggressively when they are legally able to.

It was previously rumored that AEW was working on a national TV deal. As per our sources, Khan is indeed using his connections to work on a prospective TV deal and one of the networks that they are negotiating with is Time Warner to have AEW air on TNT/TBS. While Cody and the Young Bucks have been announced as EVPs of All Elite Wrestling, we were told that they will focus mainly on wrestling and not necessarily in the creative aspect of the promotion.

This is sounding better.  If I'm correct AJ Styles contract is up after this upcoming Royal Rumble and I think Shinsuke Nakamura's contract might be up this year as well

AJ is going to be 42 this year, so I'm not sure how much he'll want to be on the road. But i wouldn't be surprised if he re-signs.

My hunch is Nakamira will stay. He did move to Florida from Japan, so I wouldn't think he'd be heading back to Japan.

That said, Nakamura vs. Omega is a heck of a dream match right now.

I have to imagine only a matter of time before they talk CM Punk into coming in but I think it is smart for them to not do it right away and maybe start the brand without him.

Do you really think he'd do it?  I'd love him to come back, especially in a promotion like this where he can be himself, but not sure he would.  He seemed pretty drained and tired of the wrestling business

CM Punk has said in a recent interview, that if he ever received a significant offer, he would consider it. The problem with All In, is that no one came to him with an offer. In his mind, a formal offer includes the money offer, a plan, what they'd like him to do, etc. The Bucks and/or Cody only said "hey we're in your hometown, if you want to do something, cool - let us know". Which is not an actual offer.

Punk stated had them come to him, saying we'll pay you this much, and we want you to wrestle Wrestler A, and here's the finish - then there is a high chance he would have been there.

That being said, with the money from the Khan family, I think a formal offer may be in the future.

Did not know that.  That would be cool.  He'd be a good addition for them to pickup for their promotion.  Would definitely get even more buzz going.

Then everyone can rip on him for failing epically in UFC and had to come to back to wrestling with his tail between his legs.  :fr:

I don't know if they'd want to put up with his douchebaggery.  I think he believes he should always be the anchor from now on.  That could cause problems with the bookers and opponents.

Well if they give Punk the money he wants (and prob needs at some point) and the right opponents and storylines plus the chance to stick it to WWE I think he will come back. They will have to address his UFC failures at some point prob from a heel in a promo in the AEW promotion (prob cody rhodes himself).

I could see him and Rhodes putting on a great program against each other.  I don't think they ever really worked with/against each other when in the WWE did they?

The should 1000% sign CM Punk. Writing off his UFC losses is easy enough, someone gets in and talks about how badly he did, and he just says "You know what the difference is between there and here? They make you fight by rules there." and then he kicks the other guy in the nuts. Then, someone cool, like Kevin Nash maybe(?) comes down and says "Ahomosays what?" the crowd says, "What?", Nash says, "Exactly."
