Just fixed my computer illiterate father's web browser home page, which goes to his email. It was an easy fix, I just feel his settings never should have been wiped to begin with.
Blame it on cutting corners so much you hire incompetent help (Anyoe good would never take the job), or management vision coming at the expense of functionality ("We do this, it'll wipe everyone's setting's". "I don't care. Just do it, the boards breathing down my neck".)
Or whatever. Seems to happen pretty often, whatever the reason (I just set up a Primepay, the process is convoluted and the access key didn't work).
I've been on the other side, on a rollout, so I know full well there's a clash one side making demands, and the other side just doing what can realistically be done.. It's just a shame no one seems to give a damn about the end user experience, especially for non computer savvy people.
