While I'm waxing political knife in the back, lets talk capitalism:
The theory: Demand = profit. Give people what they want, and you make money.
The reality: Gave people a half assed, stripped down thing they demanded.
I see it a lot in the game industry with "retro games", especially. Sometimes you get a good effort, but more often then not it seems like they just throw the project at someone who doesn't know what they're doing, doesn't really care, and doesn't get the resources they need even if they did.
I guess it's not totally fair to blame that on "capitalism", though, because there's a difference between true capitalism and "corporatism".
Indy game developers focused on nothing else but satisfying demand and then profiting, now THAT is capitalism. And it's beautiful.
