Just finished a payment on insurance, the lady at the other end asked how I wanted the confirmation number, and I told her email.  Then asked if we could update the email address.

I rely on Facebook to keep up with contacts and such.  Almost daily, I see a post that says "I have nothing to say," or "I don't know what to say."  There are other examples.  People are so used to posting they will put anything just to have an update it seems.

Everybody in CT claims they know a congressman, senator, or business tycoon and tell people every chance they get, especially if they're trying to walk all over somebody for no good reason.

You know how I kind of ramble about whether you can trust reviews online (Among other things.  :p  )  There's a reason for that.

I was browsing Steam some time back, and there was this one particularly harsh review.  This prompted the devs to respond publically.  And what they said was essentially "Someday, you're gonna make enough money from your projects to make it worth sending lawyers after you"

And then there's the stories about moderate reviews on Youtube getting culled so the critics of Ghostbusters look like frothing at the mouth crazies, or the various Yelp lawsuits..  Hear enough and you start to wonder how common it is to "silence" any and all criticism, by whatever means necessary (Never mind if some palms are greased on top of that.  That's kind of expected, that people court relationships with others for mutual favors..)

The big thing that got me thinking was a personal encounters, though.  How common it is for people to use the word "sue" as an intimidation tactic in real life, for NOTHING.  (I've had a snotty auto parts dealer threaten to sue me for defamation because I told him I'd tell my auto club to steer clear of this arsehole.  Who was basically ranting on me claiming a part did not exist for sale, and I found a part and tried to point it out, while he didn't want to hear it.)

So yeah, I'm not ranting about "lies" or "conspiracy theories" or anything like that.  More, I'm wondering if everyone "intimidates" now, for any minor offence,,and if most people "cave in" (Say, remove/alter a review on threat of litigation.)

And not knowing, it's hard knowing who to trust.  Which for me is VERY annoying (Makes me feel like a paranoid nut..)

Aspect ratios on old dvd's when you're trying to get them to look right on an hdtv.

Spaceballs says it's letterboxed on the back of the box.  "Native" mode gives a tiny rectangle in the middle of the screen. So, I enable the "letterbox" option on my player, and suddenly everything looks very stretched out.  Finally, I try a "full stretch".  Now circles look like perfect circles, instead of ovals.

So, what, was the box wrong?  Or do I just not understand how letterboxing works?  (There is zero bars on the top and bottom of the screen, which is what I thought letterboxing was..)

I'm more tolerant towards kids doing this, but anyone over 30 should have some noise control..  Especially if it's just a couple who speaks with each other every day.

So, I used to get panic attacks.  Probably close to 10-15 years ago at this point.  Hit me hard, and six months/a year later, seemed under control.  Ever since Easter, I've had this thing where I'll sometimes have trouble swallowing and feel like I'm strangling myself.  Only happens if I'm just sitting down, often in uncomfortable environments (Oddly, never at work.  Probably too busy/active)

I know, "see a doctor", and I probably will (Though I'd prefer not to, because they usually put you on meds  And last time I was medicated, I was awake for a week straight, unable to eat, and lost 70 lbs) But I KNOW it's panic related, because the problem goes away if I'm sitting at home, or if I go for a walk vs sitting/standing still.

Very, very annoying, to say the least.

Pre-recorded messages when you answer the phone suck.

But they managed to make it suck more, because half the time, I pick up the phone, and the pre-recorded message is already mid-sentence by the time I get the phone to my ear. So not only is the phone call a bunch of nonsense in the first place, the idiots who created it can't even make the technology work the way it's supposed to.

I hate small talk in general, but the scripted small talk that bank tellers and register people are conscripted into making by their employers is even worse. I don't want to listen to it. I can't imagine they want to do it.

Agree with this, and add any "patter" from retail/fast food employee's and such.

We all know it's bullshit, don't we?  What is it, a "Make them do their jobs" attitude?  You know they don't mean it but demand they convince you, because that's their job?

If I want to be worked, I'll watch wrestling.  Just shut up and lets get down to business.

I just don't see the point in the lie.  Take your pick, they either believe we're stupid enough to fall for it, or we're cynical enough to put them through that because we can.

Anyways, speaking of checkouts, what would you do:

You want to buy one item.  The guy ahead of you is checking out about three.  Suddenly, he calls his wife over who has a carriage filled to the brim with three weeks worth of groceries.

Me, I just shook my head and decided not to buy the item.  Other people complained, but they didn't understand/pretended not to understand.

Is it cynical to think they understood EXACTLY what they were doing?

Well, it was one of those automated lines.

I think they're all limited to 15 items or so.  No one really follows that.

Sales and promotions usually sell out like it's black friday every day now.

Especially for anything online.  There must be hordes of "sniper" bots doing keyword sweeps, because by the time you hear about a good bargain, it's GONE.
