TNA World Title?
« on: February 25, 2011, 01:02:31 PM »
I know this is always one of the geekier discussions in the Wrestling forum, but do you consider the TNA Heavyweight Title to be a "legitimate world title?"  I'm leaving this somewhat open-ended because I'm really curious as to what makes a "legitimate world title" in the eyes of A1 posters.  I've heard discussion before about the original ECW title for example so when I read something about TNA's title, it got me to thinking about this again.

it's just under the ecw title in my eyes.

i laugh when guys say the tna heavyweight title is why they got into the wrestling business or whey they are in the wrestling business.  anderson has been doing this a lot lately.

I'd have a lot better time taking it seriously if it didn't look like something Jeff Hardy threw up during a soma binge.

i didn't even think of that.  yeah, that belt is horrible.  why didn't anderson change it when he won it?  i cant believe they spent money on that...especially considering what they are rumored to pay some of the workers in the company.

If the company tours around the world, it's a world title... If a local indy fed were to advertise their title as a world title, I'd not take it serious. Since TNA does international business, I buy it being a world title......it's still worthless, but it's worthless worldwide at least.

I always thought that there would be some mileage on a heel losing a U.S. Title match in another country and then using the clause that it's the U.S. Title to get the decision reversed.. Same thing with the IC title, if it's defended on an island or something.

Since they've been doing international tours, I think it's fair to call it a world title in a kayfabed sense. Is it as prestigious as a WWE title in that sense? No, but it is a world title.

Of course, "TNA Champion" sounds like a title more suited to Pamela Anderson than Jeff Hardy, but that's beside the point.

In terms of contention, yes.  It's a World title defended on Internationally televised shows, ppvs and live events, just like the WWE Title.

Stature wise, it sucks.

Unfortunately, WWE can't take the high road as it relates to the look of the belt when they still have the former spinner.

I think the TNA heavyweight title is absolutely a world title. I'd love to read an objective argument stating it's not.

I'm not sure anyone is arguing that it isn't a World Title.

What got me to thinking about this was an article on LoP.  In the comments section someone said they viewed it more as a regional title.

Here's the actual quote by someone over there:

i feel its more regional, which theres nothing wrong with that. but after the NWA pulled out ive never considered it a "world" title.

Funny considering a whole lot more people watch "TNA" than any "NWA" show.

Quality of the show aside, they have a show broadcast in multiple countries, do international tours, and have working agreements with international promotions. Wasn't the Jeff Hardy Crayola Title defended in Japan last month?

Why isn't the X-Division title, a world title?

I think it is a world title (albeit less important than the WWE or WHC ones).  What is funny is that someone over there tried to say that TNA only held shows in Orlando which isn't even close to being true even though Impact hasn't traveled for most of its existence.

Is the WWE title considered the most prestigious by you guys?  Or does it just depend on who is holding the WWE or WHC at any given time?  To me, the WWE title always feels more important even though the WHC has the much classier design.

It was at one point.  I remember during the first AJ/Joe/Daniels match they referred to it as the X-Division Championship of the World.

Once TNA started a regular house show schedule, any "Orlando" jokes or statements are pretty much null and void. I remember another person making similar TNA claims on another board and then boasting about the ROH title... completely ignoring that the vast majority of ROH TV was held in one arena.

As far as the WWE title I would think it is certainly the most prestigious in the States. But I could see an argument that one of the Japan titles might be more prestigious given how different wrestling is treated in Japan.

I think they may still call it that. But I look to it as similar to what the NWA TV Title was back in the day. Still called a "world" title, but it was clearly secondary to the US or NWA belt. Plus I don't think anybody buys a ticket or watches a TNA show for the X-Division Title.

It's LoP, of course it's going to have people making idiotic points there. The argument that TNA isn't a world title is a semantic one but also a false one. A title doesn't have to be prestigious to be a real world title.

It's important, but I dont think anyone in TNA makes it FEEL important, it seem like the World Title just takes backseats to all the major storylines and the title belt is just there. The last time I felt TNA cared about the belt in a storyline sense, might of been when Jarrett was holding it, because you can see that dethroning Jarrett was the most important thing in hat company. And that dethroning Jarrett would make you "the guy".

you could say that about wwe for the most part.  only the adr/edge feud seems like the title is important (if only because adr wants his first world title reign and talks about it).  no one cares about the us, ic, or tag titles.  and the miz/cena feud is more about the rock than the wwe title so far.

that's not an excuse for tna, but a comment on the state of today's wrestling.

WWE at least runs storylines around the title. TNA, the big storyline is ZOMG LEGAL CONTROL! HULK HOGAN! DIXIE CARTER! ERIC BISCHOFF! KURT ANGLE HAS TO WALK HIS EX-WIFE DOWN THE AISLE FOR A VOW RENEWAL!!!!!!1111111111111111111111111

I agree, but like when the Miz won it, it was more about the Miz proving everyone wrong, and showing he's the real deal. I think the Cena/Miz feud might get more about the belt, but with the Rock stuff who knows.

to be fair, the only reason Anderson is "in this business" is to be the TNA champion.
