Black Mirror (tv series)
« on: January 18, 2015, 08:59:14 PM »
Hearing lots of good things about this show and rumor going around that this will be gone from Netflix possibly, so I got on it. It's like a modern R-rated Twilight Zone, but focusing on the dark side of technology and social commentary on where this could all be taking us one day.

Only two seasons with three episodes each season. Just finished season one. Not sure what to think of it. Each episode is it's own story and cast, but you never know what the plot is til you get to the second act and it's hard for me to really like it, til the episode is over and they reveal where this was all going.

Season one was a mixed bag. It's more dark than humorous, but with only three episodes left to go, I'll go ahead and give season 2 a chance.

I like it a lot.  That first episode pulls you in right away, but the second and third take a while, but they've all been good.  Ep three probably not as much as the first two, but it's still good.

I like the first one the best. That's a great scenario and funny. Second one was too dark for my tastes, but had one of those good endings. Third one I almost hated because it's constant fighting between people I did not like, but a cool idea about the dark side of technology and not too far fetched.

I recommend this series to people, but tell them to skip the first episode. I thought the first episode was hilarious. I would have made a show out of the whole ordeal. Just me talkin' here.

It's so brilliant. This whole show is just brilliant. It's good to see Actual Jesse from Breaking Bad and McPoyle from Always Sunny get to have serious roles (and together!).

Lots of big names.

Red Dress from Captain America is here, and her miraculous boobs are on full display. Well, in a bra.

The show is amazing. San Juniperno... my gosh. Plus, I haven't looked it up yet, but I would bet money that Clint Mansell has contributed music to the show. If not, someone did a spot on impression of him.

I even sing that song to myself sometimes... that 15 Million Credits song that they replay throughout. That is a brutal, brutal episode.

Watching the new season out of order due to reviews

USS Macallister - great. Starts off as a Star Trek parody, but then takes a turn. Feels like a mini movie.

Black Museum - great. If you’re a black mirror junkie, watch this last, has references to past episodes and seasons, otherwise still works as a stand alone piece.

Hang The DJ - romantic comedy. Fun and light hearted which you don’t ever get from this series.

Arkangel - very good. Dark side of technology and a more traditional black mirror episode.

Yet to see Crocodile and Metal Head.

Hang the DJ was probably my favorite of the 4th season. I kind of like it and San Junipero, even though they are more hopeful and uplifting and the series is more about the dark side of technology. I like the one with Hux and Red Dress from Cap'n America. I think every show in the series is good, it's all well done. I really would have to struggle to pick a bad episode of the series. The first episode is one I could tell people to dodge, but heck I thought it was good. I saw it as dark humor, which speaks more to how crazy I am.

"San Junipero" - S3, E4 - Really good, but felt like the ending was tacked on.

A friend of mine wanted me to watch black mirror season 4 episode 1. I would watch 5 seasons of 22 episodes each with those characters. How I wish it was not a 1 and done. I am yet to watch the first 3 seasons but I plan to when I get some extra time. The end cameo voice of black mirror season 4 episode 1 is hilarious. Also nice to see the mother get some more work.

Inadvertent plug for Inside No. 9 here, the work of Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton, who were doing Black Mirror before Black Mirror was.

I've just watched their first four seasons of their acclaimed effort at anthology. Have been advised that Black Mirror is a horse of a similar colour, so will try it soon on Netflix.

Season 4, Episode 5 - Metalhead

Interesting story - uninspired payoff.
