General Discussion / Re: How Far Do You Go Back With A1???
« on: January 21, 2020, 06:57:49 PM »

It's really interesting to see how, after so long away, my brain kind of slips-back into A1Posting mode like an old, nasty, semen filled glove even before reading into any of these threads.  Ostensibly, I'm a productive adult now with a kid and actual responsibility.  I shudder to think what could happen if I look back and see all the terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible things I've said on here in the past.

I'm in a strikingly similar boat and I have the same fear about old posts lol. Like, I've posted so much that I'm sure I've posted things that would look awful out of context, and probably even IN context, and this is why I give people the benefit of the doubt when old forum posts get brought to life on Twitter and the online mobs start coming after them...like I'm sure everyone has posted stupid stuff that they would shudder about now, especially if they've actually changed (which actually DOES happen, if I can do it anyone can!).

I like to revisit this thread every couple of years and check back to see who is still here from the days of the internet before social media kind of ruined everything.

So, who still checks in on their old internet home occasionally?

I may reply in two years. This thread is going to be A1 Boyhood.

Not me, but if people are getting paid to come up with this kind of stuff I’m clearly wasting my life.

Was that the one where Shawn Michaels "lost his smile" and handed over the WWF title to McMahon?  Yes, I was there, at ringside. That was the night Rocky Maivia won the IC title from HHH and got booed out of the building. Wasn't much different from Roman Reigns today, Maivia was being shoved down our throats and it was impossible to see the future greatness that would come, plus Lowell is 15 minutes south of HHH's hometown of Nashua, NH.

I actually met Vince McMahon earlier that afternoon coming out of a restaurant across from the Lowell Memorial Auditorium. Shook his hand, maybe 20 seconds of small talk.

I heard he's very shy and humble and friendly to fans.

I heard you have to set your computer on fire to get out of the deal.  Could just be a rumor though.

I haven't canceled because I like it too much.

Well let me know if you do!

I seriously do want to check it out. Maybe I'll risk it. If I'm locked into NJPW for 8 dollars a month for the rest of my life it's probably not going to kill me.

I can't remember if I've asked this before but how hard is it to cancel if you subscribe? I've heard conflicting reports. Like some people say they can't figure it out (because the website is primarily Japanese) and others say it's as easy as anything else.

Anyone here cancelled before? I want to check it out but I'm afraid I won't be able to cancel it easily.

WM's got one hell of an uphill battle. They should probably just settle for the fact that they're not topping Zayn vs Nakumara and go all out with the gimmicks, pageantry, and violence.

It didn't bother me, but the bait and switch on the announced Bray/Brock match was far more offensive than Dean taking that loss the way he did.

Yeah that pissed me off. Altho I guess since Bray is injured I can forgive them. Still, a shitty move on their part not coming up with a better solution so that people wouldn't feel ripped off (not money-wise, but fan-wise).

Altho that said, I'm kinda getting sick of Brock squashes. It's like once he starts the suplexes the matches just turn to "been there, seen that." I kinda want more competitive matches with Brock and people like Luke Harper. Even the Seth Rollins one from last year would have been a squash if Sting or whoever it was didn't interfere.

Absolutely loved it.

The ending to last night was also top notch with Sexy Star and The Mack's reaction to The Moth.

Joey Ryan's entrance was hilarious.

I love The Mack.

I like him. Way better than the pre-teen looking announcers they've been using lately.

I am a fan of Striker as well.

It's been reduced to 60.  Have you seen the video of it?  He didn't do anything really.  Looked like he was just trying to shake his hand or something...

Apparently the WWE is removing video's of Bryan's farewell in response to this too which just sounds like they're using this as an excuse to try and bury him one last time

http://www.ewrestlingnews.com/news/videos-of-the-titus-o-neil-vince-mcmahon-incident-the-backsatge-reaction-to-the-suspension

Is that really what it sounds like?

SMH. They give him a half hour overrun on RAW, building up to it the entire show...and then they're going to concoct some sort of weird plan with Titus O'Neil to try and "bury" Daniel Bryan?

I'm at a loss for words!

The ending to episode 3...may be the best ending I've seen yet. Fucking hilarious.

You can't do this shit in WWE!

18

I think that was part of the problem, remember when he came back the last time, he didn't adjust his style at all.

Yeah. I remember yelling at my TV when he'd bump on his head/neck and the fucking headbutt battles he kept doing with Ziggler were beyond anything he should have been doing.

SMH.

What are the odds on Bryan genuinely announcing his retirement...but being cleared for ONE MORE MATCH? If fucking Tommy Dreamer is getting cleared for matches, I can assume docs can clear Bryan for 20 more minutes of in ring action as long as he stays away from head trauma.

I really hope that's what happens. Like...he challenges The Undertaker or someone. I mean technically he still announces his retirement, right?! He'll just have one match left before it happens.

Good segment with Ambrose and Brock. The most I've liked Ambrose in a while, probably because he was acting like a heel.

It is exactly what you would expect Robert Rodriguez to do with wrestling.

Season 3 is official.  Evidently the Season 2 tapings have recently wrapped up (no spoilers, please!) and Season 3 is expected to tape in about 6 months (around the time the Season 2 episodes end in July).  Guessing they take a couple months off between seasons and Season 3 will begin airing in October/November (a shorter turnaround time than Season 1 to 2).

Hopefully they come up with a good way for people without El Rey to catch episodes. I'd gladly pay a couple dollars for easy access to high quality versions of each episode.

I know WCW and WWF have tried the taped vignettes but they never seemed as impressive as these.

That's because they have no consistent logic to their backstage segments. So if they ever do try to do things like this, it comes off as hokey and completely out of place. There is a logic to LU's style and format, that's why it all flows together a lot better and you're not constantly questioning things like "why is there a camera there?" They don't present it as a live sporting event, it's presented as any other TV show except problems are solved with wrestling matches. It's like b-action movies meets wrestling.

Plus their production values are better than WWE's. They may not have the huge pageantry and all that shit that a WM has, but their camera work, aesthetic, editing, everything, is way better.

Anyone watch episode 1 of season 2?

I think it was better than the Royal Rumble.

That's kind of the problem with New Day though.  They've settled into this place where they are either entertaining and you enjoy watching them, but don't dislike them or they are cringe-worthy and the bit falls flat and you don't want them on TV.  What they struggle to do IMHO from the discussions surrounding them is generate real heel heat.

When the crowd was chanting for Xavier to play the trombone at the Rumble and then he teased that he would do it and then he didn't...they got real heat, lolol.

...but...isn't that their gimmick?

Seriously. "Trying to look cool?" They have fucking dildos on their heads.

I don't think anyone here "gets" The New Day.

EDIT: Sorry, reading back, FATSEXY gets it. And The Spoiler. Some weeks I hate them because they're so obnoxious, and then the next week they're back to cracking me up. Kofi at the Rumble was great. They were the big highlight of a Rock segment (I dislike face Rock).
