Star Trek transporters.

I'm with Bones on this one, those things are scary.  Bet they end up killing you, and a clone with your memories pops out the other end (Even if they reuse the same atoms, no way you're surviving that..)

Not really meaty enough for Politics forum, so:

People who adapt a "No enemy on my side" mentality.  For example, they'll rant against big business screwing over the little guy, and ignore Hollywood screwing over the little guy (With "Hollywood Accounting").

I've kind of given up on politics when I realized it's just two guys with a really shitty, poorly kept house shouting about who's home was less of a public blight..

Cold marinara sauce served with anything. Should be a capital crime.

Kids with a phone, recording people in public for..  whatever reason.

Uploading to a show, usually.

Anti-smoker smugness.

We're outside.  You don't need to loudly yell "UH OH, SECOND HAND SMOKE ALERT.  EVERYBODY CROSS THE STREET!"

When you open a frozen TV dinner, throw out the box, then have to pull the box back out of the trash to find out how long to microwave it.

I should hope so. If these aren't relatable, then I don't know what we're doing here.

Before a physical exam, I'm told to fast for four hours.

I never heard of such a short window before blood work. I want my coffee, and it's five hours before, but I can't help but wonder if they made a mistake..

Windows Event Viewer.

A layman would think their system was dying, with all the warnings and errors about stuff no home user is ever going to care about.

Attitudes about money.

Specifically, everyone agrees a person has a right to make a buck.  But when it comes to saving money on something you could buy, it's a different story.

"What are you fixing that for?  Just buy another one!"

I don't know when fixing stuff became a "redneck" or "poor" thing to do, but it is.

My favorite was the "people are starving" one.

If your budget is good enough to pay for a spot, I bet your charity could afford to feed a million people outright, instead of trying to hawk a cheap looking mug.

So, I use ad blocking stuff like everyone else, and tried this solution specific to apple products (Iphone/Ipads), where you use a "fake" vpn that leads to nowhere, and causes ad brokers to send the ads to that non existent location, so you get nothing.

And it worked great.  Video based ads would either not show, or show a loading screen for a few seconds and vanish.  Banners ads and such were a thing of the past.

But recently, within the past few months, ads have started getting through.  Everywhere.  Mostly self playing video ads, or embedded videos you needed to click.

I don't know their trick (Using your devices own player somehow?), but I've got to wonder if there's just one or two ad services out there for EVERYTHING, or if everyone in the industry networks all the time about everything.  I can't see any other way how a wide variety of services and websites would suddenly wise up and ruin a good thing.

And that annoys me.  That whenever someone figures out how to ruin a good thing, everyone knows about it.

People are anti-social, except when it comes to ruining our good things.  :(

Stop me if I brought this up before:

My sisters seeing someone with a really good job, who commutes to work.  His boss has decided he's going to live in Long Island.  No explanation given, they just want him to.

According to him, his productivity will remain the same.  He'll work the same hours he ever has.  He has no idea why they're doing this to him.

Of course, he has to find the money to pay for an apartment, and won't be reimbursed until the end of the month (Or possibly two months.)

I'm scratching my head wondering what's happening.  Family thinks they're looking for an excuse to get rid of him, but why not just do it the direct way?  New York is an "At will" state, you don't NEED a reason to show someone the door.

I'm just taking a shot in the dark here, but this couldn't be about politics, could it?

CT has a bad reputation as business unfriendly.  Is it possible forcing workers to relocate even when commutes are reasonable is another way to "punish" the state?  It's not enough to walk away with jobs, we're gonna make sure our employees won't spend a dime in your state either?

Windows.  Any time they make a change.

I'm convinced it's less about the end user experience, and more about marketing/pr guys throwing stuff at the wall they don't really understand themselves to justify their careers.

The internet has ruined everybody. I just messaged one of my oldest friends, a guy I went to HS and college with to ask if he had read a certain book. When he said no I told him, give me your address I'll send it to you

This 58 year old bloody eejit gave me his fracking e-mail address!  :mad_mini: :laugh_mini: :fr:

I tried googling up the Omega 3 content/ratio of butter.  I end up getting a sea of pages on "grass fed butter".

Only mention of regular butter is to avoid it.

Same deal for eggs.  Free range/Omega 3 fortified or go home.

I mean, I know the webs just a glorified billboard now for all kinds of health fads, but time was you'd get a range of stuff on topics..  A blog post here, an article in an opinion section of a newspaper there. Now it's all marketing, and nothing but.

Just give me the skinny on cheap stuff I can buy in a grocery store.

My complaint about Intel from earlier?  Here's a concrete example:

I happen to enjoy hooking my laptop up to a samsung tv, over hdmi.  Windows recently updated.  The tv gave an incompatibility error.

I jumped through the usual hoops, looked on various boards, uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, looked into chipsets and firmware and ports and the hdmi cable.

Turns out all it was, was my laptop needed to be set to my televisions resolution.  But, of course it wasn't that simple..  There was also an option you had to tick, titled "Maintain display scaling".  If the default "Maintain aspect ratio" was ticked instead, it wouldn't read to the tv.

You know, the obvious thing.

I'm firmly convinced Intel employs miserable, overworked trolls who knew exactly what woulld happen.. I know plenty of codemonkeys, and they're all jerks.

I finally fixed the video problem, and Windows gets another update "fixing" everything I went to pains to deal with..

At least they realized their screwup.  You never know with these people, and I read my problems were common over the course of many past updates.  For all I knew, the current crop of troubles was limited to a small enough batch of users where there would be no fix (As there often isn't, unless it's an epic failure.)

Kcups.

I tried the trick where you cut off kcup labels to get your machine to brew from non 2.0 compliant pods.  In this case, those mesh reusables Walgreens used to sell for ten bucks.

Filled it with Maxwell House, near to the top.  Got an immediate kick.

Haven't had a caffeine high like this in years..  Not even from three "extra bold" cups.

What the heck are they putting in those cups?  Decaf?

Dark roasts actually start with less caffeine. It gets burned off in the roasting process.
