Well even the books haven't touched upon Varys and Little Finger yet. I wonder if they're just planting long term seeds since both guys work extremely long term with their schemes.

Melissandre said Stannis will betray his family or something didn't she? That goes beyond the current books as well.
well, he does mean to send Edric Storm(his bastard nephew) to the flames, so that fits that idea.
read this today:

Good news for the realm. Game of Thrones is nominated for Best Drama Series and Peter Dinklage is nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in the
Awards.

Isn't it about time Dinklage got promoted to lead actor?

Dinklage is the lead in the opening credits.  He and HBO decided to still submit him in the Supporting Actor category.  Probably has much better odds to win that award again.

Game of Thrones has too many stories and characters to have him nominated as lead actor. Weren't there some episodes he wasn't even in?

If the show and books had a protagonist after Ned died, it's still his character.

I agree, but you don't see episodes of Breaking Bad without Bryan Cranston.

The reason for marrying her is very different.

It's also an important theme on role models. Jon Snow and Robb are pretty much the same in that they have Ned's sense of duty, and don't notice the mistakes that come with that. Sansa has the same duty, but living with Cersei teaches her how to handle herself with words. Arya hangs around with bastards and murderers and stops noticing.

I think the protagonist isn't a human character at all, but the realm itself, which makes picking the main antagonist a bit more interesting.

Daenerys is the villain.

What do people think is going to happen when she gets to the mainland? Marry Robb and Jon Snow and Tyrion will be her gay brother, and Arya her head knight, and her dragons will eat Joffrey.

No. She's going to kill every motherfucker that we know. Lannisters, Starks, Baratheons, what is the fucking difference to her?

Is she though? Of course she's going to kill people, but how does that make her different from anyone excepting maybe Jon Snow right now? She can go one of two ways, I think. One, she goes crazy like her father and wipes everyone out, but two is that the whole benevolent side that Jorah keeps referencing and pushing comes out and she only rains Dragonfire on people who deserve it like stupid Lannisters and Stannis Baratheon. I don't know how her story plays out in the books (yet), but as an observer of the show, she's far from the bad guy.

To me, it feels like even the most obvious bad guy, Joffrey, is evil but is evil mainly because he's a spoiled brat who had no upbringing that would rein him in before he became King. Would he have turned out that way anyway? Only Martin knows. Pretty much at the top of the nobility chart is Snow and the bottom is Joffrey and everyone in between is some kind of mix between bastard and nobleman/woman

She would hold Joffrey/Tommen/etc and Robb/Bran/Sansa etc in the same contempt. Their dads killed her family. She's not watching the show going 'ooh Joffrey what a little shit. You're cute though Robb, you can live'.

Didn't that bald dude from Quarth explain to Danny that the stuff her brother told her about people wanting them to rule again were lies and fairy tales? Why does she still want to kill everyone with dragons?

Yeah, Viserys was a prick but he didn't lie when he said Jaime Lannister killed their dad, that the Mountain bashed babies heads off walls, and that Robert and his accomplices (the Starks, the Baratheons and the Lannisters) killed their big brother.

The only guy we know that knows the complete truth is dead (Ned Stark)

What about the dude who was with Ned Stark when he found his sister bleeding and dying (and possibly giving birth to Jon Snow) at the Tower of Joy? Is he still alive?

Not really a spoiler, nothing has happened. But I would think back to season one when Arya was hiding and running around in the basement of Kings Landing. She heard something and tried telling Ned. Also think about Dany's marriage to Drogo. How'd that even come about?

Plus Dany's other brother, Prince Rhaegar was loved and did not marry a Targaryan. Perhaps that family would support Dany's claim to the throne.

He is alive. He sends his two kids to the Starks in the second book, but the show has moved them to next season.

There's also the whore that alledgedly gave birth to Jon Snow.

Who could very well be an invention of Ned Stark.

This is a series with almost no pure good or evil characters.  Joffrey is pure evil everyone else have degrees of both.
